While the Google Play Store has an endless selection of free Android
apps, it’s no secret that a lot of them have malware or shady
permissions which give them more access than they require. Some examples
of extra permissions in most flashlight apps include the ability to
find out your exact location, access your photos/media files on storage
and view your device ID and call information.
Control your phone’s camera LED flash with a tap and turn it into a flashlight!

If you’re really concerned about app permissions and still want a
flashlight app on your Android phone or tablet, Privacy Flashlight is
the one to go for. The app has no ads or malware and virtually no
permissions except for the bare minimum necessary for it to function. On
the plus side, the app is extremely small in size and shouldn’t bloat
your Android device’s memory either.
Developed by the team behind the ColorNote app, Color flashlight is
an interesting app which allows you to not just use your camera LED, but
also your display, to show different colors of lights and effects like a
burning candle stick, a romantic display of hearts and an “I love you”
sign along with the option to display sliding, glowing text on your
screen.
Tiny Flashlight + LED is one of the oldest flashlight apps on the
Play Store and also one of the most reliable. It doesn’t just light up
your way in the dark, but also has additional goodies like a strobe
light function, blinking lights, Morse Code and a fun Police Lights
simulator. Please note that network permissions are required to display
ads.
Mega Flashlight has a good amount of features, including screen light
(when your LED doesn’t work), strobe lights, Morse Code, warning light
and Police lights without the intrusive permissions. The app size is
also quite reasonable at just under 2 MBs and it doesn’t hog a lot of
your battery either.
